In Washington, the awards ceremony of the 11th Harambee International “Conveying Africa” Award

On 10 October 2026, at the Yuma Center in Washington, D.C., the awards ceremony for the 11th edition of the Harambee International Prize “Communicating Africa” took place, dedicated to audiovisual productions that portray the African continent beyond stereotypes, highlighting people, their abilities, and the initiatives that help build its future.

Among the 332 entries from Africa, Europe and the United States, four winning stories were selected, able to offer an authentic and nuanced look at African reality: from youth leadership to the role of women, from education to dialogue between cultures.

The evening was an opportunity to meet and share among people from different countries, experiences and backgrounds. Through screenings, awards and conversations, cinema confirmed itself as a valuable tool to foster mutual understanding, build relationships and promote a fuller narrative of Africa, more respectful of its human and social richness.

With this eleventh edition, the Harambee Prize renews its commitment to support a story of Africa that can give space to the stories, ideas and solutions that arise every day on the continent.

The next appointment is now the next edition, scheduled in Switzerland in 2028.
